Main Street Improvements

Kansas City

In the heart of a community, the Main Street of Kansas City, Mo., was languishing and forgotten, until a branding and streetscape project for the Kansas City Main Street Corridor Development Corp. (MainCor) and city of Kansas City, Mo., sought to revitalize it. Dimensional Innovations was brought in by fellow design firm Confluence in a design-assist role.

The Main Street District is expressed through a logo developed by Dimensional Innovations, which is integrated into street light poles, ornamental light pole bases, planter railings, stone seating and interpretive panels.

Custom-designed “Bike Lock” racks add a fun, artistic twist to the streetscape while bronze medallions inlaid in the sidewalks and bus stop “leaning rails” share fun facts about the area, significant history about the architecture and stories of the people and businesses that helped to establish Main Street.

…the Hy-Vee Hot Zone is a memorable experience because of some of the elements that were implemented for the first time; such as the use of the fire in the stage and signage, the Airstream, and the heavy use of technology in the space.
