Atlanta Braves

Custom LED Baseball + First Base Dash

The Atlanta Braves moved into their new home, SunTrust Park, at the start of the 2017 baseball season. The $672 million state-of-the-art stadium holds over 41,000 fans. It’s the first of its kind in the MLB to be surrounded by a $400 million mixed-use development, called The Battery Atlanta, that invites and supports the local community around the ballpark with restaurants, retail, apartment housing and even a live music theater.

In an effort to extend the fan experience beyond the stadium walls, the Braves turned to Dimensional Innovations to create a unique, iconic element to do just that. DI designed, engineered, and built a custom, 21 feet in diameter LED wrapped baseball to tower over the common area directly behind the first baseline. The baseball weighs in at almost 7 tons and took roughly four months to complete from start to finish. In a partnership with Nanolumens, the baseball streams live games, concerts, advertisements and other messages from the stadium on custom LED screens wrapped in the center of the baseball.

DI also created an interactive game inside the stadium. The First Base Dash allows kids to virtually race against one of their favorite Braves players using custom LED technology to see how they measure up.
As more teams focus on the broader experience, and ways to extend fan connections beyond the game, iconic and impactful elements like this are setting a new standard.
