The difference at DI is that there are a lot of special people here.

We’re an experiential design firm made up of industrial designers, brand strategists, marketing experts, graphic designers, architects, interior designers, content creators, engineers, fabricators, general contractors, technologists, and project managers. Even a few we’re still trying to figure out what to call.

That gives our clients a unique ability to move from concept to completion with one team, which relieves headaches and allows for greater cost control - not to mention a better final product.

We have a borderless mindset that demands of us to do whatever it takes to create experiences our partners and their audience haven’t even imagined yet. Interestingly, the future still relies on timeless skills from the past: storytelling, art and craftsmanship. But it’s the way we apply and realize those skills that makes us unique.

Our purpose is simple - we liberate people from mediocre experiences.

Like other companies we admire, we started in a garage in 1993.

A small space with an equally small client list. But that wouldn’t last. The big screen gave us our opportunity. As the “cinema wars” heated up, we began to design and build the signage, theming & branding for the megaplexes that were driving the theater industry. It was our big break. Now, in 2018, we have over 250 people on our team in four locations.

Jim Baker, one of our founders, had a vision that went beyond building amazing things. He made sure we also built amazing people. He created a culture that encouraged people to not only innovate, but also grow and excel. Jim brought Tucker Trotter aboard in 1995 as a young intern with a newly minted degree in industrial design from the University of Kansas. Today, Tucker leads our impressive crew as CEO.

We LOVE what we do.

Supporting our community isn’t part of a our business plan. It’s a part of each and every one of us.

Kansas City isn’t just our location. It’s our home. And we have a fierce commitment to make it an even better place to live than it already is. While financial contributions are a key part of giving back, we also give our time and talent. We consistently roll-up our sleeves to support causes that are important to our DI family, leveraging the unique talents of our group.
